Re: My models (some LNER)
I must have inhaled more than I thought, because I've had a real spurt on today.
Backhead on the way for 'Leader'. Apologies for the wash out with the flash.

Wootang - noone has actually asked that question, and to be honest I just went with what I had to hand at the time. I'd originally bought the nameplates for another project that didn't happen, and chose to use them on this. No other reason.

More pictures of today's fun. Also had another chance to test the 4-8-2 arrangement with the Cartazzi and flanged wheelset. Success.

Re: My models (some LNER)
It's a very effective loco
My only criticism is the lowermost join between cab side sheet and firebox casing. I think they should 'blend' into each other a bit more, like with the W1

Re: My models (some LNER)
Looked at doing just that in my drawing. Practically, with having the plasticard cab sidesheet it was a non-starter after the wrap fiasco.

Re: My models (some LNER)
Update with 'Warspite' - had to take the front end apart to fit the smokebox in. I think it works, and should be a close approximation with Saint Johnstoun's A1PX drawing when viewed from the side, if not from straight on.

Re: My models (some LNER)
Following conversations on Sunday, I am putting feelers out for what alternative names could be carried by my (so far) two monsters. Suggestions so far include 'British Enterprise' for the W1/3, and 'Red Rum' for the Mountain. Any others are welcome.

Re: My models (some LNER)
Not actually done my usual diagrams for 'Warspite', but if you search for Saint Johnstoun's A1PX drawing, imagine it with skirt and stretched, then that is where I'm heading. Oh, and give it a Hornby A3 corridor tender instead of the streamlined job. It's looking more German than Gresley/Peppercorn at the moment - need to trim the skirt a bit.

Re: My models (some LNER)
What about a completely new line in loco names such as key land battles in British history:
Stamford Bridge, Hastings, Agincourt, Falkirk, Towton, Naseby, Marston Moor, Boyne, Culloden, Bannockburn?
No disrespect to those who suffered at Somme, Ypres, Vimy, Dunkirk, Singapore, Tobruk, Imphal, Kohima, Normandy, Arnhem - just a case of a different timescale.

Re: My models (some LNER)
You could go even earlier - eg. Winwaed and Baden Hill.
Once you get back to the Romans then places aren't so well defined, so you'd have to switch to tribes or commanders - The Iceni, The Brigantes, Boudicca, Carthamunda, etc. And there has already been a Silurian...

Re: My models (some LNER)
Not to mention we've already had half a dozen WWI battle names in the D16 Class, Somme and Ypres among them.Atlantic 3279 wrote:What about a completely new line in loco names such as key land battles in British history:

Thank you for the suggestions.
A little progress for you from today. It's been warm and sticky, but got something done if not much.
Chimney is just sat for show.
