Hi Tom
Superb weathering, they make the locomotives life-like very impressive. I could do with a few of my 1960's A3 that run out of my Leeds Central bringing to life.
Regards John

Lovely job, Tom. Love the forward side windows in the cab. They never were clean in real life, were they.

Re: 2750 (Tom's) Workbench-North Eastern Modelling 1938
Evening all
No weathering update.....more of a workbench update.
Some large rearranging in what was my bed room (I've moved rooms), has meant the scrapping of one bed, leaving a lovely amount of space for a proper workbench. My current one (about 2ft byt 2ft) just doesn't have the space for weathering and building. This work bench will be in principle for building only. I have a J25 to finish and with the current set up, it means a lot of rearranging to set up for kit building on the weathering workbench.
We have the components, and work begins tomorrow. Reference books are all within handy reach. I'm still a novice to kit building, however I'm passionate to build my own whitemetal/etched loco and coach kits. You can't rely on RTR alone, especially modelling pre war. I'm young, and have the time to develop my skills. I've pretty much all my compliment of RTR pacifics....however, there are plenty of B,C,D,J and Q classes that will be required for Thirsk South!

Good project Tom. I built my workbench over 30 years ago and it was been with me to seven different houses now and still going strong.
Look forward to seeing a torrent of kit-built items flooding off yours in due course

G'day all
Have a great time with the new working arrangements. It's much better working inside than a cold shed.
I use my spare bedroom as a modelling room, and will build a layout there one day.
Seven moves in 30 years, LNER4479, that's a bit excessive. You must be an expert in packing. I've moved twice since leaving school (not counting student moves).

Nice! Are you going to be 'weathering' it? Spilled tea and such?

Melamine surface should mean it's easier to mop up!giner wrote:Nice! Are you going to be 'weathering' it? Spilled tea and such?
I can't really take all the credit, I just followed my Dad's instructions. I envy his wood working skills and although he can't do what he use to, he very much had designed how the workbench would go together in his head.
There is a long baton of 3 by 2 running along the back that is screwed into wall (It's a studed wall, so we followed where the batons are for the shelves to know where the studs were). The workbench rests on top of the baton, which it too is screwed into.
I'm off to Railex NE in the morning, but when I return I shall be putting up the 5 drawer chest, which will be next to the workbench. What I'm somewhat miffed at is I bought it from B&Q yesterday at a reduced price of £24.
I read today it's been reduced to £10!
