Very interesting day all round I think....and dare I say it, I'm finding rolling stock more interesting than locomotives. I think the technical term for that is the 'Wealleans Effect'.
Welcome to the real world Tom.

Locos are OK but they're not like the real thing. :D

Haha quite Vernon.
I'm guessing you will be at Roy's running day this year? See you there!

Just to remind everyone that Tom is at the Ormesby Hall Model Railway Show, Middlesbrough, this forthcoming weekend. The show is open from 11.00am each day, closing at 5.00pm on Saturday, and 4.00pm Sunday. I have mislaid my "flyer" with the admission prices but I think that it is only a couple of pounds to get in. Well worth it even if it is only just to see Tom!!!!

In addition to the Hall's permanent layouts - Corfe Castle is a must to see - every time I visit I spot something I've missed before - there are at least a couple of visiting layouts too. Paul Gallon aka Worsdell Forever is taking one of his many layouts and there will be Farnby an O gauge offering from The Cleveland Model Railway Club.

Going on Saturday and looking forward to having a "natter" with Tom and others, after , of course, tea and the excellent homemade cakes in the Hall's café.

Thanks David, I'm looking forward to it.

After Saturday, I'm next down for:
Thirsk Show 27th July (somewhat appropriate don't you think)

Scale Four North 2015.

Few more things to get ready before Saturday, but I'm nearly there. :)

I'd love to visit, but fear I have far too much on my plate at present, and little energy.
Most subjects, models and techniques covered in this thread are now listed in various categories on page1

Dec. 2018: Almost all images that disappeared from my own thread following loss of free remote hosting are now restored.

Hi Tom,

No need to apologise for the three lovely kettles.

Unfortunately I cannot make any of those meets as I am just to far away. Would like to see Retford though. Maybe next time I visit the UK?

My word young Tom,
you have come a very long way in a short space of time that I have known you and I am delighted. Far too often us wrinkley's condemn a whole generation because of a mindless minority. Yourself and many other young Railway Modellers prove this last point admirably as do the young people who I meet caring for the Dog's in the kennels of Guide Dogs for the Blind.
Unfortunately I can't make this weekend but will try very hard for Thirsk on July 27th. Sorry I don't get the significence of this "Thirsk Show 27th July (somewhat appropriate don't you think)" Unless it's your birthday.
It's really funny when you first started posting as a very young guy,I was a tad worried about replying with all this talk of Internet Grooming and sent you a post requesting that your Dad was aware of our communicating. I refer to an earlier paragraph :- condemn a whole generation because of a mindless minority
I often talk to young children in the supermarket when SWMBO drags me around there and now days I sometimes feel uncomfortable for no good reason. As I volunteer for Guide Dogs I am CRIB checked every three years because of dealing with Vunerable people (Visually Impaired) and in fact undertake a refresher course on this subject in three weeks time.
I thought at first "Internet Grooming" was dusting over the keyboard and column each week.
Sorry to go on Tom,keep well my friend and regards to Dad and my Girlfriend - Lass.

Regards, Derek.

Haha not to worry Derek, it's not the date, but the location. I'm in the planning stages for a layout of Thirsk, set in the summer of 1938. 32ft by 14ft. :)

Thanks for the kind words, you have been there since the beginning of my modelling....it's all come a long way.

Taken from the Garter Blue thread.

I have now found a 1938 B&W photo of 4466 at Retford. The back of the nameplates look very light, far too light to be black, so therefore I've added new nameplates with red backs. Photos to follow.

It is very brave to use black and white photos of that era to judge colour, it depends on the film stock, unlikely to be known.

Is there anything in the Gresley Observer on this topic?

Not a lot of help, apologies Tom.
