G'day all
It's amazing how Atlantic makes Thompson locos look interesting as I'm not a fan of his.

Excellent Graeme . I had better get started on my new layout Doncaster, she will look great pulling into platform 4 from Kings Cross, then going onto shed whilst being replaced with an A1/1 60113 Great Northern for it's onward jouney to Leeds.
Will it be ready for the weekend.
John.

Dear All,
Thank you for the suggestions re the K2 valve gear and the crosshead issues. I will start looking about for the various parts that might suit. At the moment my biggest issue is the boiler. The B17, B1 boiler is the correct diameter, but the smokebox is alll wrong. I will have to consider a scratchbuilt one.
Graeme, the Wolf is looking good!

When I was looking at 'doing' a K2 I planned on using the B17 boiler with a hacked up K3 running plate on the V1/3 chassis (with modified valve gear as discussed).Flying Fox 34F wrote:Dear All,

The cab I required (the West Highland version) would have to be scratchbuilt.
I decided to wait for the forthcoming upgraded DCC ready V1 chassis as I felt the split chassis version would require too large a cut out in the bottom of the boiler & using the metal running plate could have caused problems electrically.

A shortened B17 boiler moulding with a new wrapper for the smokebox and a different door suited my K4 which features somewhere in the many previous pages, or in a recent Model Rail.Flying Fox 34F wrote:The B17, B1 boiler is the correct diameter, but the smokebox is alll wrong.

Had the same thoughts as Atlantic- having put a B17 boiler up against the drawing yesterday .Have just tried a B17 running plate up against the drawing, and looks as if most of it back to the cab could be used, which gets over the double curve behind the cylinders, the front area is capable of modification for a K2 , even down to,near enough, buffer beam position.

Dear All,
Thank you for the K2 suggestions. I have a B17 body in the loft, I had not considered using the footplate, but now I've looked at photographs it is quite a good match. I will dig everything out when I get a chance. All I need now is a new V1 chassis and a new razor blade. Any suggestions for the tender?

Evenin' all
One the great vacancies is a GNR tender apart from the 8wheel type G. As far as I know nobody produces one in any form.
The K2's had class B tenders the same as the Atlantics and O1/O2 classses.

Presumably Heljan will have to make one if they are to produce all variants of the O2?earlswood nob wrote:One the great vacancies is a GNR tender apart from the 8wheel type G. As far as I know nobody produces one in any form.

London Road Models do kits
Re: Atlantic's works inc. RTRconversions. "Now wear the T-sh
Could the old A3 GNR tender top be used as the basis for a GNR 6 wheel tender?

An intereting thought. Must study it some time.

G'day all
The A1 coal rail tender is slightly too large.
I have measured the Dave Alexander A1 coal rail tender against the GNR type B tender.
It is 13mm too long 4mm too high and 2mm too wide, so it would be an interesting cut and shut operation.
The London Road GNR tenders cost £40, and while they are very good models, they would probably be a tad too expensive for a RTR conversion.

Good evening Graeme et al,
I'm not sure if you'll agree if this is the right place to post a bit of Thompson Pacific modelling news considering how much time has passed by since it was last discussed. However, here it is...
A long time ago in a galaxy, far, far away (well it was Spalding actually so the opening might be right) Graeme and I hatched a plan to do some detailing etches for his resin conversion kits. The nickel silver detailing and valve gear parts for A1/1 and A2 have been available for some time now but, finally, I've completed the brass etch for a selection of other detailing parts. There are quite a few useful bits and pieces on the etch such as Flaman and BTH speedo brackets, tall lamp irons with mounting plate for the electric lamp, 3 style of cab roof vent, 2 types of mudhole/washout plug details, bogie guard irons, AWS plates and cab sight screen frames.
Graeme has an etch in the post to try out and give me some feedback. So, they are not for sale just yet but it won't be long. To show you the potential of the parts here are a few photos of some parts attached to an A1/1 conversions I'm currently working on. Cheers....Morgan
