I've looked through and can't find the tenders. Could you link us through to the correct page?

On Norfolks site blue label at top- click on Hornby and Triang Steam parts,(second line right hand side) brings up a list with tender tops on at the bottom, click on this and scroll through.have no knowledge whether they are tender/loco drive as Pacifics aren't my modelling subject.Anyway its another source of bits other than East Kent or Abegails to put on the list.

Surely they must be tender drive?

Searching the part numbers unfortunately reveals they are the old tender drive tops

Battle has now commenced on another loco too. "Great Northern III", for EM gauge. I hope this will actually be fairly quick and painless.......

This picture shows only a loose-fit dry-run after some more hacking and trimming of the A3 body plus basic preparation of the new smokebox and five (now united) pieces of new running plate. This body, to test its "correctness" thus far, is simply sitting on the first OO chassis that I converted to A1/1 spec for my own purposes, not the EM version that this loco requires - but at least you can see that I've managed to do a bit more than merely pick my nose since posting the previous picture:

If "picking my nose" resulted in that progress I'd be finished building by now!

More progress on the A1/1 for EM.

The body is now screwed together without glue (at least temporarily) to allow an accurate trial fitting to be done. I've painted up some parts separately with car aerosol black already to get a hard wearing finish without the need to mask to very critical edges:


This stage of work on the A1/1 also created the opportunity to produce a mould to turn out resin front steps for pacifics, with a variety of applications.

This weekend's work would ideally have focussed entirely on the A1/1, but I had to deal with other matters too, such as making and packing some resin parts, and then seeing what I could achieve with the resin tender top that Mercator II produced.
Here it is on a borrowed Hornby underframe, after some remedial work and further application of primer, doing service behind my unfinished Lord President.

When I say remedial work, I should qualify that remark and admit my share of fault too. I interfered slightly with the moulding that Brian sent me by filing down the front bulkhead to suit a post 1948 non-A4 use. There were also a fair few small imperfections to sort out in the casting, and some trimming to do to make it fit the underframe. These shortcomings are not entirely Brian's fault. He knew that he had some problems with the behavior of the resin he was using and with the filling of the moulds, having taken on an admirably ambitious first exercise in resin casting. When I met him about ten days ago he was still a bit reluctant to release the castings to other modellers, and I rather "nudged" him into supplying me with one. But as the following pictures should help to show, suitably "sympathetically treated" it has become a fair basis for a nice tender. When he gets some better resin and bcomes more familiar with techniques I imagine the castings will get better still. I've included a similar Hornby factory-finished 1928 non corridor tender for comparison in several of these pictures.
