Thanks for posting the link Mick.

Interesting that they have moved away from separate handrails.

Am I right in thinking the tender body may still prove useful?

Clearly there are some doubts expressed about the shape of the boiler, but it is interesting to see the curved edges to the cab, and even open roof-vents.

Probably comes down to a trade-off between time and money.

I've just tried to pose some relevent questions and add a couple of observations to the already established debate over in that section of RMW.
Most subjects, models and techniques covered in this thread are now listed in various categories on page1

Dec. 2018: Almost all images that disappeared from my own thread following loss of free remote hosting are now restored.

Just caught up with you Graeme.

At £8.99 I won't go as mad as I did buying half a dozen Mallards, but a couple of these may be worth a punt.

I see the tender bodies having potential, and even the loco bodies for some more Mountain "neverwazzas".

(Try finishing your first one I hear you say :oops: ). :roll:

Tender will be useful if the right width as perhaps will the cab and glazing , cant see me doing much with the remainder??

One thing is for sure - this magazine series will have us eagerly awaiting the next LNER offerings as they come up!

I've decided that at £8.99 every couple of weeks they're really quite a bit of fun. I may even learn a little of the "dark side", reading up on other non-LNER classes.

With the new RTR models in the pipeline too, I feel there is quite a lot going on to keep the sense of anticipation high!

Boiler looks fine if you want an A4 type boiler with washout plugs/boiler bands in the unique 4472 spec.

I am looking closely at the RMweb pics - IMO, the tender is copied from Hornby's super detail one, as was the Mallard tender.

The smokebox/boiler/cab appears to be one piece, but the running plate appears to be a separate piece. This could be the advantage of this model - perhaps removing the body shell and modifying the boiler/washout plugs/chimney to something more appropriate for casting resin copies? The cab glazing may even fit a Railroad Scotsman.

I was initially disappointed when I saw the pics earlier, now the grey matter has taken over and thought about it a bit, it may not be such a bad piece after all. Potential for some modelling, definitely. For £8.99 for one model, the curved cab side sheets and small cut outs are worth investigating, so I shall buy one and see what its like.

I think my part of Lincolnshire must be more backward than normal as we are still on issue TWO until next week, was a little disappointing when I went into smiths today to pick up an A3

Interestingly, they still had in a hidden corner a couple of A4's, which I might go back and see if I can acquire for a discounted price!!

I finally managed to get a chassis late last night, so hopefully that will arrive over the weekend and I can do some modelling start of next week

Progress with the V2 proposal. I need buffers (having a job getting hold of these), a whistle, and then the paint shop. Should I give it a parabolic curve or a black smokebox?

I'd say black smokebox. Have you re-profiled the nose? There's a few pesky mould lines around the front

I don't think issue three is actually due at the newsagents until next Wednesday -according to our local chap - it seems that Subscription issues have gone out though?

The FS tender is the 1928 corridor version as preserved. If its any good I will need several for forthcoming projects.

Thought I was being clever today! :roll:

Bought the last 4 GBL Mallards from WHSmiths at The Fort near Fort Dunlop Birmingham.

Went to pay for them (and a few stationery items) with my "£5 off when you spend £20" voucher, only to be told that the voucher does not apply to magazines!

Of course, you can log onto the website to see what the voucher covers but I wonder how many people actually do that?

Still, I think even if I sit on them for a few months, and if I don't use them myself, I'll get my money back in the future.

Having seen the above link to the pictures of the A3, I think I'll keep my £8.99 in my pocket and save myself a journey to the shops. What are they playing at? Moulded rails that you can hardly see, white lining on the boiler and black lining on the tender. No thank you.

Still think it's worth having even just for the tender body if you need one, and the cab has potential. All depends on what projects you have in mind and how much time you're prepared to put in.
