At least three months ago I guess, may even six or more, a member of this forum who now seems to have lapsed, offered to send me a nicely modified cab as a master for the casting of useful copies, both for him and for others, but it never came.

Now I apologise to those with a direct interest in the W1 resurrection for what appears to be a digression when I've barely started, but this does have relevance of a sort. I've been whining-on about the Hornby Railroad A4 cab over on the "Bachmann V2 modifications" thread. Having exactly such a beast "spare" after the first cut-and-shut operation for the W1, and wishing to initially try out on a "dispensible part" a key element of my planned "all in one piece" casting technique for the rear part of the W1 body, I am in the process of cutting back and tidying up the ex A4 cab to create a viable master for a V-front cab for multiple applications, including V2, A2/1, the four later P2s and various neverwazzers.

I am therefore "guilty as charged" yesterday by St Johnstoun. I'll try to sort out a picture later.

For some locos the extra ventilators moulded over the crew seats will need cleaning off. If you want to stretch the applications to include 2001 / 2002 then you may have to also file off the tapered fairing behind the raise central ventilators and make good the plate edges and bolt-head detail in that area, as well as attending to the matter of creating a turn-in plus definite beading on the rear edges of the sidesheets.

With energies now going wholesale into resin casting, I wonder what would happen if you tried to cast a boiler or whatever from leftover plastic explosive / Semtex? :lol: :twisted:

So is water-boarding similar to surf-boarding then?

Here's that part-prepared ex-A4 cab, with lower edges made-up straight and leading inner edges of the V extended to suit marriage to standard fireboxes as well as those with raised, streamlined cladding:

And whilst this is far from being "Plan A" at present, thanks to a local auction 3 years ago I have a ProScale running plate screwed to a part-built Branchlines chassis, thank to Tony Wright I have a resin (Crownline?) V2 boiler, thanks to messing around with cobbled-together Thompson pacifics then moving on to custom etches for valve gear I have a spare Comet valve gear set, so this becomes a possibility, if I can find time and inclination to finish it:

Absolutely perfect work there Graeme. More or less confirms what I was saying in the P2 improvements thread: you fill in the corner and the V shape and the A4 cab is virtually the same as the P2 cab in this scale.

:P Just to muddy the waters, I've picked up a part-built Jamieson V2. The previous owner did a neat job putting the smokebox, boiler and firebox together. Perhaps Graeme might want to use it as a master for resin casting...?!?

I like that Frankenstein V2 Graeme! However with your skill I'm surprised you've not converted into something like a U1!!! 8) :lol:
