Re: Daves C & W Works
Ay up!
I'm also a member of the LMS forum (who booed?) but nowt happens there much thanks to the spammers!
I'm also active on a classic car forum and two van forums (sad, innit? Still, those LDV minibuses aren't gonna fix themselves!) but this forum is a daily "must" for me.
And yes, whenever I open the Modelling thread, I hope for something either from you, Dave, or Graeme or Earl Marischal, Rob, etc etc. If I've missed anyone out, sorry!
I hope my random scribblings are found useful by someone.....

BB it's a wonder you have time for the old LNER and explains a lot .
As it's been some time since the carriages have featured I thought it was about time I reminded you all how far we had come, remembering there are 2 D113's and of course the D10C, so here are a few pics taken this evening. The white marks on the roofs is Milliput filling the odd blemish, smoothed out with a bit of water and some clay shapers. I can really recomend clay shapers, they have flexible soft blades and really smooth the milliput out. I got mine from Amazonia

Re: Daves C & W Works
jwealleans, it is a long way but the Post Office do a great job here of 1 delevery sometime in the day.
Right ..back to seats...do I hear moans....
Going right back, I made a jig for the seat ends so it was easy to reproduce a lot of them...top pic.
I've started painting them and these are the paints I will use. I've started with a base coat for the leather of deep green which will be followed by black green for the shading you get with leather...I hope. The mahogany will have the wood brown as a base followed by one of the other dark red colours depending on how it looks on a trial piece as a colour wash.
Quick question.....how have people fixed the roofs on these kits, what is a good method...I've been thinking about this and I'm debating on the D10C ...lift off or not and the 2 D113's I,m thinking about glue. One reason for thinking about lit off on the D10C is if a table or seat moves later in life how would I fix it, and don't mention knives and forks.

I won't mention knives and forks, but I don't understand why you need the rooves to come off when you can just open the doors. They do open don't they?
Just joking Dave! Mind you, it wouldn't surprise me if they did!

Just to let you know, a Dirty great wedge of of Blue Tack, holds mine on, and after watching you create your masterpiece, I'm glad I have removable roofs, so that I can upgrade mine.

Re: Daves C & W Works
In recognition of the installation of individual legs for the seats, rather than a hidden support strip, you must deserve an award for sheer determination. I hope none of them break due to accidents or just come adrift as the coach gets older.

EarlMarischal..of course the doors open....
Manna, thats a good idea using Blue tack.
Atlantic, in real life the seats only have 2 legs and are fixed to a secret batten, I'm going to mount mine on a floor plate to help keep the legs in place as if you are lucky you will only see the tops of the legs.
Blackout..thanks.
Seats starting to get their first coats of brown and green, by the way the legs are over long and will be trimmed back later, and are from Evergreen .030 x .030 strip. I was going to drill the ends and insert some brass wire but then thought b.....ks. I forgot to mention the side arms are filled out with white milliput to give a bit of support to the rolled top.

Re: Daves C & W Works
Seats are now fully first coated and in the second pic the mahogany tint was applied...in the end I used cavalry brown, simlar on the tables. Note the colour on the pics for some reason shows a very red appearance, which in reality it's a very slight red brown which with a coat of satin varnish replicates mahogany quite well.

Re: Daves C & W Works
Seats and Tables.....it's this sort of thing that seems to takes ages to do and is all part of that finishing the model time that seems to be for ever.
Seat legs are trimed to correct size using the hidden batten as a cutting guide so it all stays sort of levelish.
Tables are now being fitted with their table cloths, these are made from very thin plain paper from a connect duplicate book. For the tables I decided on a 6" over hang round the 3 edges, so they work out at 15 x 20 and 15 x 12 oblongs. To form the turndown quickly I made a simple jip from scrap balsa. The paper was coated on the underside with pva glue, placed on the table top, the whole lot was then pushed through the hole.....the pics show it better.
