And the spaces in track came before the Jinty with a BR 1980s logo
Re: Mablethorpe in '00'
Great idea for a layout and it looks like a good start has been made! I've looked up the track plan (Great Northern Railway Engine Sheds: Volume Two) and I think this would be a great starting point for my imaginary station on a(n imaginary) second loop line between Potters Bar and Hitchin!

Sounds like a book I need to get my hands on. Does the track layout differ hugely from the one I laid out?
Secretly hoping you say it doesnt...

Re: Mablethorpe in '00'
Not by much, obviously the platforms and sidings are longer but I've only found real two differences between your plans and the (undated) plan in the book.
1.) The spur line in the upper right corner comes off the shed line not the main line.
2.) This same line leads onto the turntable which was a 45 footer.
Hope this helps - the book also has four rather nice pictures in it. One from the Victorian era, one from the 30's and two from the 50's (one of the 'new' 52' turntable). Interestingly considering the books name there are no photos of the engine shed!

Ah yes, I did change the spur line..
I read somewhere the engine shed disappeared in the 1920s? Was a timber shed I believe.
I think Louth's shed disappeared quite early on as well so nearest was probably Grantham which seems a stretch for any early starts from Mablethorpe or the loop line when it was there.

Louth shed closed 30th November 1956.

Re: Mablethorpe in '00'
The nearest shed geographically to Louth would be Immingham, but I suspect that a number of Louth's locos came from Boston, or maybe Lincoln.

Re: Mablethorpe in '00'
Must have been a very early start for crews if they had an early morning start from Mablethorpe
Re: Mablethorpe in '00'
Table 58 from the June 1947 LNER timetable which can be found here http://www.timetableworld.com/book_view ... on_id=1815
has the first departure from Louth as 7.44 am arriving Mablethorpe 8.12 am.

Fascinating. Thanks for sharing. Now more intrigued by the 8am departure from Sutton on Sea that doesnt seem to have originated anywhere. Did Sutton have a shed?40C wrote:Table 58 from the June 1947 LNER timetable which can be found here http://www.timetableworld.com/book_view ... on_id=1815

From the October 1947 LNER Carriage working book for the area the 8.08 am from Sutton on Sea is operated by carriage set 158 which departs Louth as empty coaching stock at 7.25 am.

And they wander why Dr B said the line wasnt making money. Seems a waste of a carriage movement..
