Re: Tourist Coaches
Having read the posts on the link to Modelforum, which mick b referred when he started the Silver Jubilee coaches topic on this forum, I am fairly sure that the source for both sets of Silver Jubilee coaches mentioned in his latest post here is the same, Marc Models, who purchased 4 mm scale drawings from David Sweetman, who drew them in 7 mm scale originally. I have ordered a triplet set from Marc Models, though I didn't go to the Peterborough show & so haven't seen the built set on display there. Did anyone else in this forum see them? I would be most interested to know any opinions of these coaches.

Re: Tourist Coaches
In the Cooper-Craft range of kits there is three groups the true Cooper-Craft what are still very good, the Ian Kirk LNER teak coaches which the bodies are still good but need new underframe, and really a new roof as well (61' 6" & 52' 6") and probably bogies, and better glazing as well. Finally the rotten apple the Mailcoach range with the only good kits is the GWR Monster and the Thompson full brake with the rest having some good moulds and the rest need replacing with sides like the Cooper-Craft Mk 1 kits.
Re: Tourist Coaches
I concur with others that you made a really nice job of those tourist coaches Mick. Maybe someone will get around to doing etched sides one day. A year ago I'd have done the job myself but indulging oneself has been getting expensive of late. Its cheaper to buy in my personal requirements from Messrs Comet, MJT, Kemilway and Bedford. I must add that I also think the people on this forum are really helpful.

Re: Tourist Coaches
Coachman,
LNER Tourist Stock has been done in etched brass already, I bought a rake of 7 coaches last year (2 Brakes, one Buffet and 2 sets of artic. twins). These were designed by Rupert Everett Brown (RDEB Models), I have also had the Leeds Quint Diner and the Silver Jublilee 8 coach set along with a number of triplets and Flying Scotsman coaches from the same designer.
All have been of excellent quality, the Jubilee being etched in Nickel Silver which makes life easier. I actually have some GNR 48' artic. coaches on order at present from the same source ( and a Twin Artic ECJS sleeper first).
RDEB have a good range of etch designs which I do not believe are available from the other manufacturers you mention. If you are interested and you do not have the RDEB list I can scan this and PM it to you if you wish.

Re: Tourist Coaches
Wolf, sounds like great news. I haven't heard of Rupert Everett Brown (RDEB Models), and a search on Google produced nothing, so I would like to take you up on your kind offer to send me a scan of his list.

Actually I can do all four flavours, It's just that they didn't make it into the list.coachmann wrote:I concur with others that you made a really nice job of those tourist coaches Mick. Re: Tourist Coaches
I hadn't made any sort of plastic kit since Airfix planes when I was a boy and about five years ago, a pair of Tourist twins was my first venture into railway kit making since then. However, they totally defeated me and put me off tackling kits again for some while.
Not knowing what to expect, I assumed everything would fit together like the planes used to, but I could not get the parts, especially the roofs, to fit together properly. Masking the windows took ages and then I couldn't get an acceptable finish to the paint on the smooth clear plastic sides, or paint the window frames without lots of smudges. They looked awful and and as my expectations of quickly making a whole train of coaches was obviously unrealistic, I abandoned the whole project.

Re: Tourist Coaches
His details were in the latest GER 4mm modelling list http://www.gersociety.org.uk/4mm.pdf.
I've seen some of his stuff on Retford and Roy Jackson speaks very highly of it.

Larry, Mick, Rob,
You should now have RDEB details.

Re: Tourist Coaches
Thanks very much Steve. Quite an Aladdins Cave in that list. I always liked GNR/LNER coaching stock but messing around with a domed roof put me off for many years. Hornby provided the answer although it took several years for the penny to drop! The way they're rolling off my workbench, they will outnumber my LMS models before too long.

Re: Tourist Coaches
Dear Sir, The photos of the coaches give me the incentive to complete my models but could you tell me please are they 4 or 7mm scale. I have three Westdale brake ends one twinset and a buffet, one of the brake ends I shall paint brown as it is surplus and I am short of open coaches anyway-Fred Newman used to jest the Press were advised the LNER were going to run a special train of open stock. So they all turned up wearing top coats hats and scarfs!
Thanks again for some lovely photos.
