Isinglass do a drawing of NER tenders that were attached to J39s, this includes the 4125 non-self trimming tender. I believe the drawing is N0 414, but check.

Nice one Pebbles,,, have just read that they took all the old NER tenders off D21's to put on the new J39's,,,, so hopefully one of the drawings should give me a starting point.

It just gets better and better,, Isinglass drawing 415 "tenders for B1, D49, J38 , J39 and WD-2-8-0 (Ex NER tenders off of A2, C6, C7, D21 and Q6)"
Superb suggestion Pebbles,,, and I must have at least 15 isinglass drawings in stock!!!
It never occured they may have sheets of just tender drawings,,,, mind you I have been decorating the kitchen for the last 48 hours.

The good news is the kitchen is decorated,,, Mr Isinglass has sent me a drawing of D21 tenders and the hacking has begun to transform the Gem NER tender into something slightly more accurate.
Started by hacking all the coal rails off along with the wing plates and about 4mm off the front end of the footplate casting.
Then set about cutting off the inaccurate front and rear ends of the chassis plates so I can get the more accurate small "D" installed. As the school re-opens tomorrow it looks like I can get back to some serious self isolating with the D21,,, who needs half terms!!!!

Decent progress made with the D21 tender, now I have the Isinglass drawing for the correct tender, so I have made up a new buffer beam, removed the wing plates and added frame extensions so I can include the smaller D holes near the steps.
Q1, the front elevation of the lockers on the drawing is quite clear but the side elevation of them is a little vague due to the coal rails,,, according to the side elevation drawing the front of the lockers is about 6" higher than the rear,,, which makes them look a little odd,,, it may well be accurate but without any photo's it does look weird.
Q2, the front elevation of the coal hole shows it as a slatted arrangement covering the actual hole,,, which again looks a little strange.
If any NER specialists can offer a bit of detail on these 2 area's it would be much appreciated,,, there is nothing of significance in the RCTS green which shows any great detail and I don't have the appropriate Yeadons.

The top of the coal rails has been removed to allow the distinctive NER fluted rails to be added and I have got the front and rear bunker plates added.
Have spent today making up the NER coal rails and the shaped ironwork to go at the front of the tender either side of the coal hole

I would not call myself an expert on the NER, so happy to be corrected, but here goes!
Ken Hoole’s Illustrated History of NER Locomotives has a section on tenders. It does not show the exact tender type that you are building though!
There is a front view of a 4125g self trimming tender which clearly shows the front of the toolboxes and also shows that the coal hole had a metal plate in runners. The plate looks to be oval in shape. The tender is photographed in 1957.
There is a drawing of this tender as well which shows that the tool boxes did slope from front to rear.
Finally a photo of a 3038g tender which shows the toolboxes reasonably well. They seem to slope from front to rear - definitely not in an arc shape. The coal hole might have a slatted arrangement (or it might be a single plate) sliding in runners. Again photographed in 1957.

NER tenders can be a bit of a minefield. This style of 4125 gallon tender was confined to the C6, the early build C7s and the D21. Initially the toolboxes would probably have been the round top (treasure chest) style but following a number of incidents in which an open box closed without warning. It is alleged that this caused injury to the crew. A new style of toolbox was designed which opened from the front. This had the top sloped down from the front. This style is clearly shown in the photo in Ken Hoole's book although that tender is the later self-trimming type.
The front of the coal well was planked with 2" timber.
