Ay up!

52D you are correct in that Triang did indeed make a Brit minus deflectors and smoke unit for mail order. It looked even wierder that their short-wheelbase model did normally! Saying that, the body always looked good.

Manxman, that 4-8-2 is coming along very nicely indeed. Looking forward to it being finished.

Just given 'Warspite' it's first coat of satin black on the valances and smokebox. Definitely sticking with the woodpecker on this one. It looks a right BAB now.

Some progress from today. The ACFI covers are in place and trimmed and part-painted.

I have, however, been paying closer attention to the tender. I know that I said that I wasn't going to be doing any work on it, and to date have attempted to blend the green on the boiler to match the finish. I think that I shall wait and see what effect a coat of varnish does to the paint before looking too closely at it.

And a few pictures to go with this momentous occasion in my opinion - never thought I could manage an eight-coupled express engine before.

Note for the day. The Apple Green used on Hornby R2675 does NOT match the Apple Green from the Railcolour range, even after varnishing. I see two options :-
1 - leave the pair of them as is and put up with the mismatch;
2 - repaint the tender to match the boiler and re-transfer it.

Any suggestions?

Ay up, Brian!

If you can't live with it, a repaint is the only option. The Railroad green is too dark, anyway.

There is a lot of lining on an apple green engine, but go for it anway! You'll never know until you try.

That's what I thought - either too dark, or too much blue in the green.

The lining doesn't scare me so much - a case of take it steady, measure umpteen times and cut once, I'm thinking? HMRS LNER lining sheet should have enough about it?

Any tips on where to start? At the cab, or smokebox end?

07/07/12
Lining started today - getting to grips with the sheet was the first problem. Lack of labels as to which lining was which led to a couple of mistakes, but they were taken care of. Now I have a debate with myself as to whether or not to line out the edges of the deflectors, or the cab edges for that matter? Boy do they look fiddly.

Boiler bands - check.

Vertical line on edge of spectacle plate and sidesheet - check.

Join between spec plate and boiler - check.

Repainted centre wheels - check.

Rebuilt chassis and motion - traaie da liooar.

Or in English, put off till tomorrow.

And then have a spurt of energy at stupid o' clock...

Ay up, Brian!

With those boiler bands and cab lining, the tender'll be a cinch for you.

Well done!

Okay last of the loco lining, at least until I possibly do something about the tender.

I wonder how Sir Nigel would have reacted to our attempts at continuing his large loco policy? :)

Probably would have had the lot of us committed?! Gave the drawings from RCTS 10A yet another perusal. I do believe the 4-8-2 and 4-8-4 with the Cock O' The North front ends may have been 4-cylinder machines, based on the location and layout of the inside cylinders? I could of course be completely wrong.

Bit the bullet, and after much nagging by my partner (she also has an artists eye for colour variation) have decided to repaint the tender sides to match the boiler green. Photos to follow once I put the transfers on.
