30 day suspention, and can I put a cap on this now, I didn't know about the implications of doing it, I only did it the once, and I have just sold it on a buy it now, listing confirmed at 14:34, item sold at 20:56.

To get back to the £399 W1-it may seem a lot but you are probably looking at around £200 for the kit,wheels,a decent motor gearbox,then paint,solder,transfers etc.Say that makes roughly £200 then for time and labour -I don't think I would build and paint a basic 0-6-0T for that,let alone the relatively complex W1,though I imagine I work much more slowly as an amateur than a professional builder does.If I tried building locos for a living I'd be bankrupt in a week!Bullheads superb BR standard looks very fair pricewise especially given the lovely detailing work-thats the really time-consuming part!IIRC Bullhead has comissioned loco's previously from the same source so clearly the performance is top-notch too.
My reservation about buying a loco like the W1 from E-Bay would stem from unproven performance-if you unpacked it and it spun happily around your layout with a heavy train then inched smoothly off to the loco shed,great,but imagine the disappointment if it just sat there hummimg and heating up!My hunch is at that price it's not being sold by the builder!

The Finecast W1 had one bid £399.90 the starting bid.

I bought the Dublo boxed Deltic, not bad for £40,already got mib Co Bo, class 20, the other diesel which looks like a baby Deltic,and several steam,another one for the showcase.

As I type this I gaze proudly at my just finished my Hush-Hush from a Finecast kit and here's a rough breakdown of the cost:

Kit: £100
Wheel Pack (Romford) £ 50
Mashima 16/26 motor £ 11
High Level Models G/Box £ 16
Transfer pack £ 5
Aiden Campbell crew £ 3

Total cost: £185

To get this done professionally, we are talking serious cash. West Coast Kit Centre quote, in my admittedly elderly catalogue of theirs, around £250 to assemble the chassis with items such as brake gear, balance weights and cylinder drain taps attached. A friend recently ordered one from a pro builder (I forget who) and paid roughly £1000 for a model of this standard. Truly a man with more money than sense. But it does make £400 seem a little more reasonable, though dunnit?

Personally it's a case of whoops, pardon me and pass the soldering iron.

Must see about getting that P2 kit...........

Must be a use of the term "last time" I'm not familiar with...

Out of interest, I'm in the process of commissioning a 4mm G5 from http://www.crphillips-models.co.uk/lnermodelspage3.html (as referenced in viewtopic.php?t=1299) - the price quoted is around £450 for construction, painting/weathering, and supply of motor, gearbox and wheels. Add to that the cost of the London Road Models kit (£80) and a DCC decoder and USP module (about £60) and the job is a very reasonable £590. Delivery is estimated for September 2009, and I look forward to posting pictures when I have some.
