I had previously posted a query about the works plate details for the K1/1 MacCailin Mor. It has since occurred to me that the K1/1 MacCailin Mor was originally a K4 and although re-built to a K1/1 in 1945, the works plate may have been retained from its original build as a K4 - does anyone have any information on LNER K4 works plates?
(I need the information for the works plate I'm having made for my 2 1/2" gauge loco.)
Many thanks,
Mark.

Yes I think I suggested that and looked it up in the RCTS book - with no success.
Yesterday my copy of the K4 volume of Yeadon's arrived. I did glance through lastnight and have just had another look.
There are few photogaphs of 3445 due to it only being around for 7 years before rebuilding and most of those during World War 2 when there were photographic restrictions.
The book doesn't list a works number, but I notice that a lot of the K4 pictures have an oval number plate on the smokebox just under the nameplate. Where this is readable, it gives the locomotive number.
Some of the BR engines have the plates but they're unreadable in the photos in Yeadons. They've been removed on the other BR pictures.

Mark, Richard,
I am surprised that Yeadons Register Volume 18 does not give the works numbers for each loco. The copies of Yeadons in my possession do give the Works numbers.
For the uninitiated, Yeadons is based on the works locomotive record cards which were updated following every visit to the works and summarised the type of repair carried out. It also recorded details of the boilers exchanged, tenders fitted and shed allocations. There are also photographs of most of the locomotives in each class showing the detail differences as they occurred.
For each loco there is a tabulation of works visits and dates, headed by the LNER running number, original name where relevant, place of construction and works number.
For example, from the A1s, Volume 1.
1471
Sir Frederick Banbury
Doncaster 1539
To traffic 10/7/22
This is followed by
1472
Flying Scotsman
Doncaster 1564
To traffic 24/2/23
FS is then followed by a whole batch of A1s, presumably ordered at the same time as FS, and all with sequential works numbers. This is logical because a works number would be allocated to the loco at the time of ordering so that all the necessary parts could be requisitioned from the various parts of the works and other suppliers, and time and costs could be allocated to each loco build.
If Volume 18 does not give the works numbers, I say again that I am surprised, but if it does not, all may not be lost, because we still have 3442 The Great Marquess from the same batch of K4s. She presumably has a works plate, and it ought to be possible to interpolate the works number of 3445 from that. Just find out 3442's works number and add three to that. Who can prove you wrong?
The works plate would probably not have been changed at the rebuild to K1/1 as that of A1 Great Northern was not changed when Thompson rebuilt her.
By the way, are you building 3445 to the plans produced by Henry Greenley?
