Morning All & congratulations to all who voted LNER/BR(E) as the top 'Big Four' Region in the OO gauge poll - Our vote of 2,171 took 34.8% of the overall vote, with SR coming second with 922 votes!

The BR Blue Pullman achieved top spot with 166 votes, but LNER locomotives came in as follows:

2nd: GCR D11/1 'Director', 164 votes
3rd: GNR J6, 160 votes
4th: LNER B17, 130 votes
5th: NER B16, 120 votes
6th: NER Q6, 104 votes
8th: NER J27, 91 votes
13th: LNER P2, 77 votes
14th: LNER EM1, 75 votes
15th: GER J15, 74 votes
=19th: GNR J50, 63 votes
=19th: LNER K1, 63 votes
21st: GNR C1 Atlantic, 62 votes
=26th: GER B12, 54 votes
=26th: Sentinel Railcar, 54 votes
=30th: LNER D49/1, 51 votes

We have both the A2 and O4 on the way with Bachmann in the next eighteen months, so will await to see if we can add further locos from the LNER stable.

In their widening search for new prototypes to model, the manufacturers would be wise to reflect on the popularity of long lived prototypes. The O4 is a natural choice because of the huge number constructed and their widespread use after WW1, not forgetting in the Middle East and Australia.

The D11 likewise was used in Scotland by the LNER with only a few detail differences. Modellers of the GCR will be clamouring for an A5, and N5 and a J11 next.

It looks like the NER will need attention as the next most popular. J25s were used by the GWR during WW2.

Mmm....

I wonder if less than 200 votes is an sufficent response for a model that will need to sell 10,000+ to pay off the development costs?

Wow, so many LNER locos O_O I wish I had thought of some of those =P Particularly excited about the Director, B17 and Q6. Shame that the J15 came in a bit low, guess it means we'll have to wait longer for that one :(

Coming in at below 200 votes shouldn't be a problem, as the 3MT scored 154; the A2 scored 145 & O4 scored 141 last year - Hornby even chose to go with a Clan Pacific, which I believe only scored 69.

Most of the current Top 10 can deliver locos in four eras (pre-Grouping to BR (Late)), and were produced in significant numbers, plus some have preserved examples even today.

From looking at the complete LNER perspective rather than just the NER, the B16 operated on the ECML and across to Banbury in GCR territory; the Q6 down to Peterborough, March and across to Manchester; and the J27 operated in both GER and NBR territory. Would therefore love to see a NER loco come off a Hornby or Bachmann production line, but the B17 could shade out the B16, and the J6 the J27, so will it be the Q6 that comes through in the end?

I will now await the publishing of the Bachmann & Hornby 2010 catalogues, with a tad more hope than in previous years!

Well well,

The 3MT has the same mechanism as the Class 3 2-6-0, the A2 will be more or less the same mechanism as the A1 and A4 and the Clan and Britannia had the same frames/cylinders in real life. So for each of these models half the development cast have been covered. I'll wait with baited breath to see if the O4 has the same wheel spacings as the G2.

As the list of wants, you'll only get what can be produced from existing mechanisms.
