LNER Coronation coaches

Post by Kestrel »

Has anyone approached Hornby about the colour of the recent samples of the Coronation coaches?

The colours seem to be all wrong with them looking as if they are the same blue all over instead of two tone with a silver roof.

I have ordered these but don't want them if the colours are wrong.

Recent images show undecorated samples so not representative of the final models. Bear in mind they have had access to the restored Beaver Tail during development.

According to Gordon Maslin, the paints used in the restoration were sourced from T&R Williamson. Garter Blue was matched to the colour used on 'Mallard' by the NRM during its return to operational condition, Marlborough Blue to a sample from the Beavertail. The roof is silver/aluminium. Apparently 19 coats were applied, finished off with polished wax.
