Unfortunately not being restored to steam, but a bit of news in that it's moved to Locomotion at Shildon

http://nationalrailwaymuseum.wordpress. ... -starts-2/

I'd be interested in seeing a photo of it in it's new location if anyone has one

What's the world coming to - you need an "Interpretation Officer" to make Joe Public understand what railways are about. Sir Nigel will be turning in his grave...

Visited Shildon today and saw 1621 up close - fantastic to see 1621 up close, especially with the wheels visible, what a beautifully made piece of a Victorian Engineering. Shildon is now better for NER stuff than York in my eyes, with 1621, the Electric bo-bo Number 1, Gateshead Works horse drawn fire engine and J21, and the snowplough

Yes, it's amazing what can be achieved through a combination of a diet of pizzas, palm-oil, chips, "mechanically recovered meat" products and alcopops (plus other chemical "relaxants"), no discipline or punishment, a mockery of an education in subjects such as "media studies" or "social care" (but none in spelling, grammar or adding-up), top quality brain-numbing tv programmes like Big Bruvva or Britain's Got No Talent, a guaranteed dole income for life (with bonus pay if you deliberately breed a tribe of illegitimate kids you can't afford, and let them make thorough nuisances of themselves), and a general "no effort required / no responsibility to be shouldered / all rights unconditionally assured" culture.....

Perhaps an 'Interpretation Officer' is expected to explain the difference between a Railway Station and a Train Station? Or even a passenger and a customer.

Don't get me started. Just...... don't!

Mrs BB says: he's just spat crisp crumbs over the keyboard and screen and stomped off. Time for his medication I think.

When I saw the NER 1621 at the original York Musem many years ago I wished I had lived in an age when such high stepping locos roamed the rails. What a sight it would make out on the mianline in steam, but alas people would rather see newly created locomotives.

I wonder what happened to those lovely red NER pattern headlamps which used to grace No 1621? I do hope that they have not disappeared.

Silverfox2512 need not worry excessively about missing NER red headlamps for 1621. Provided that a drawing of this headlamp is available, or another headlamp is available as a pattern, a competent metalworking shop could make replica headlamps easily if or when required.

Sir Brian - I do not think that is quite the point! Provenance, provenance, provenance.
