North Norfolk's J15 / Y14 takes out a Mercedes

Post by richard »

No one hurt. Manager says the crossing lights & sirens were working.

PC Jon Parker, of Norfolk Police tweeted: "Currently on scene at a train vs car incident. Unsurprisingly, the train emerged the victor."

I rather think that the Merc driver tried to take out the locomotive. As he was on the way to the golf course, will he opt to lose the stroke and try for a second shot :?:

Would any reader be happy lending him anything, anticipating the condition it might be returned in?

I recall when a former neighbour drove into their house wall in a Merc (after a slight miscalculation as to which pedal does what...) - it was a rather impressive (involuntary) demonstration of Merc build quality, as just a few scratches on the Merc and the house had a definite dent in it. But playing Titfield Thunderbolts with a J15, very foolish... I hope the driver didn't claim flashing red lights means 'prepare to stop'

I also hope it doesn't give certain F1 drivers any ideas. ( )

PS - Anyone else think the J15 looks wonderful in GER blue? I feel an e-mail to Hornby coming on...

Most definitely - but then, I'm generally a fan of pre-Grouping liveries :-)

You could also send one to Oxford Diecast, asking if they'll be producing a model of the mangled Merc...

Wonderful it may be, but let's not delude ourselves it ever looked liked this once it left Stratford paintshop.

But the two Liverpool Street pilots in the 60s were pristine, I must admit. Fond memories.

I was impressed with the report in the Eastern Daily Press, which correctly attributed the event 'Car crashes into train'; instead of the usual 'a train collided with a car' nonsense. (My bro who for some decades worked in automotive insurance claims regularly brightened our Christmas gatherings with a choice selection of 'the tree swerved into my path', 'then the lampost hit me' descriptions: but that's amateur's writing...)
