Platform to platform crossings, before 1939.

Post by Atlantic 3279 »

When various aspects of Board of Trade recommendations became legal requirements after the Armagh accident, footbridges or subways were specified for passengers to cross the railway at all "exchange" or "important" stations. What about the rest of the stations? Where there was for instance no convenient, adjoining, gated, public level crossing at a "lesser" station, especially on a line with a speed restriction, was it permissible to provide only the un-gated, sleepered/boarded "barrow" type of crossing at the platform end as a means by which passengers could cross to a second platform?

Thanks. Sufficient mention of examples there with only boarded crossings, well after 1939 too. Lots of people not in any way answering the original poster's question too - fairly typical.
