J10 photo

Post by widnesian »

I have two photographs of J10 number 65138, one taken in June 1954, the other in May 1954. The June photo looks like others I have of the J10, loco and tender in proportion but, the May photo looks completely different, the tender is huge almost as big as the loco itself, can anyone say why

The J10s were fitted with diffferent types of tender of differing capacities. If I remember there were 3250 gal and a 4000 gal ones. I guess you've seen photos of a loco with a big and a small. Tenders were often exchanged at overhaul time. If you have access to a copy of Yeadon, that might tell you which tender was attached to a given loco at a given time.
