More help neede please with id's

Evening All

I have added some more photos to id, a few i have the number but cannot find either the Class or designer of the loco
also a few coaches a bit of foreign and some stations to id

A few ideas for you Neil :

16 / 24 : Bedford Midland station looking 'south'; Bedford Junction box in background ?

21 / 24 : A tube stock interior; one of the several so-called 'Standard stock' variations of 1927-35 I'd say: Enlarging the image to "Original" size, the car No. 7041 is readable at its far end, though it needs someone better-versed in this stock to say what vehicle type/age that is.

22 / 24 : Far from sure but, with what looks like 15"-gauge track, the buildings suggest the RH&DR's New Romney to me.

23 / 24 : Once enlarged to "Original" size, a platform lamp post-mounted name sign clearly reads "FAWKHAM", so I'm expecting that the running-in nameboard partly visible would've read
"FAWKHAM
.FOR LONGFIELD" : =
- So the location name of this one is already there in the photo :x

24 / 24 : Pretty sure this is a train on the Down Slow about 600 yards north of Elstree & Borehamwood station (It's not the only thing that feels right, but the location of a signal box in far background through right-hand main bridge arch would then be correct for Elstree).

No.7 on page 1 is a Maunsell nondescript brake, built in 1933 to Order no. 708, withdrawn 12/62.

No.7 on page 1 is a L.M.S. passenger brake to Diag 1778 built 1925/6. The vehicle marshalled next to it its a S.R. bogie luggage van conversion.

No. 10 on the same page is one of 53 S.R. 25T brakes built on 1941 to Diag.1579.

No. 11 immediately following is a Diag 1550 S.R. bogie brake built Ashford 1936.

FAWKHAM? Sounds like a fictitious location for a 'Carry On' film. :D

Too similar to Fircombe perhaps, which they did use :D

Ay up!

The 1st picture - the square saddle tank has an LNWR look to it. It also appears to have condensing gear fitted so maybe a Liverpool Underground loco? Picture looks to be taken at Crewe works with the loco having a "condemned" air to it. Is that a 10 ton Pacific tender on the right? Looks like one to me and, if so, the lack of coal pusher gear suggests a Princess tender.

The D could be anywhere in fairness. I'll leave that to someone with knowledge of the Southern!

Piccie 3 - the wheel tyre fitting area. I reckon Crewe - the cab on the RHS has an LNWR look to it.

Dunno about the rest.

I hope that the viaduct is sufficiently well known for the location to be identified and also the working, and maybe the class of loco. The coaching stock appears to be 100% Gresley, but I am no expert.

I will be grateful for any information.

It's Dallam Viaduct on the Hincaster branch closed in 1963.

Thanks BB. My lack of geographical knowledge of the NW is such that I had to look it up. :oops:

Anyway, the train would presumably be an excursion, maybe from NE England that had come via Stainmore? Or is there another explanation?

There were trains regularly from the north-east to a miners' convalescent home on the Furness:

Apart from the regular passenger service a number of excursions used the [Stainmore] line including summer Saturdays Only trains between the north-east coast and Blackpool and an unusual service which lasted until the line's closure was an unpublicised passenger train once every two weeks, normally on a Friday. This was The National Union of Mineworkers train from Durham to Ulverston carrying injured and sick miners to their convalescent home at Conishead Priory. Its normal route was Durham, Bishop Auckland, Barnard Castle, Kirkby Stephen and Tebay.

Can you not?

Did Durham miners' specials not originate on the LNER?

The train in question is composed entirely of Gresley and Thompson passenger stock, as far as I can make out.

Sorry, you are right (a very interesting picture) I was referring to the original post.
I think all threads tend to deviate from the original (LNER) theme and drift towards other areas and subjects.
In this case it seems to be the reverse, not a bad thing I suppose :wink:

Perhaps I should move it over to Railway Chat - the place for non-LNER railway matters.

"LNER Modelling" is another one which seems to wander.

For these forums, "LNER" means LNER itself, pre-grouping constituents of the LNER, and region-specific BR (eg. Deltics & Class 91s on topic, Class 37s are not)
