Neil some excellent shots.

I particularly like the one of Night Hawk with the green and cream ex-North Eastern 12-wheel Restaurant Car second in the rake. I believe it is No. 21487 to Diagram 170. This Tourist Stock set was allocated to the NE Area, it appears to have teak Brake Thirds at both ends.

Hi Neil.
In case you've no locations for those whose captions don't mention one ;
I've a feeling that Night Hawk could be on an up train at Sudbury Hill (no idea if a NE-allocated set could be on such a working though).
Felstead looks like it's on an Up train at Greenwood.

I am sure Sudbury is correct.

A1 2577 'Night Hawk' was a Gateshead loco until January 1937 when it moved to York.

The excursion train is perhaps heading for a sporting occasion at Wembley? The light and trees suggest a spring day. some time in the mid to late 1930s? I wonder if the leading Diagram 40 Brake Third was there mainly to store extra refreshments.

Three of the other pictures 2548, 4474 and 4480, are taken just north of Potters Bar with down trains.

That was my gut feeling about those as well John, but I was seeing too few clues to feel it worth mentioning in case of being wrong.

It's taken a while.
Sudbury Hill Harrow is my local station.

I took this a couple of days ago with a Windows 95 era digital camera so not the best.
Sudbury Hill Harrow 2.4.14.jpg
The platform loops were taken out many years ago and the platforms built out to face the through lines.
The picture of Night Hawk would have been taken from the end of the down loop platform which is somewhere over the top of silver location cabinet on the left.
Flats built in the goods yard.
Still in place though is the white painted area on Wood End Road bridge which acted as backing for the down through signal.
