The picture was taken at Louth Station in the 1950s.

I'll start.... Howlden, ex-GNR? Is your photo in the earlier 1950s? I think these vanished in fairly short order once newer non-corridor coaches began to cascade down.

That's certainly a help - it gives me a clue as to which diagram book I should be looking in.
'Fraid I've got no other details to help, early 50's sounds likely.

Good Morning,
The LNER built a couple some 4-carriage articulated sets from Howlden bogie stock and these ran around the Louth area in the 1950s. There's a photo of one set about half way through "The East Licolnshire Railway" by Alf Ludlam. I don't think that set matches your photo, although I believe there were detail differences between sets. I also believe that the 4-carriage sets lasted longer than their singleton classmates.
I hope that helps.
Regards,
Vernon

It has a slight G.N.R. look about it or maybe it's off the Hull & Barnsley railway?.

Its a 45' Howlden Brake third ex GNR - see HCD Vol 1 for drawings. OR it could possibly be the end of a triplet or quad built from 6 wheelers and old rigid eight wheelers - not really enough showing to be sure.

There's another photo here
http://www.disused-stations.org.uk/l/lo ... ex64.shtml which I think is the same carriage (different era).
So it could be a twin possibly diagram 198/218 , 33' over the body length, although without a better photo of the side it really is hard to draw any conclusions.
Thanks for your help.
