4489 & 4491

Post by Iron Duke »

A couple of pics from the scrapbook.
The first just says 4489, the second 4491 on the Coronation.
Any dates or possible locations?
No record of the photographer(s) but credit and acknowledgment to them.

From having seen other photos, way back, pretty sure 4489 is at Stoke, heading for Stoke tunnel on the Down.

The top photograph (as Stevie says) is taken at STOKE (taken on the down side of the line on the approach to Stoke tunnel). The down fast line starting signal for Stoke s/box which was sighted on the right-hand side of the up fast line was 'distinctive' to this location plus the end of the down goods line can be seen and the up fast line home signal with the up fast to up goods line signal on the same bracket post is also visible in the distance is another give away to the location.

The bottom photograph i presume is again taken at the same location but looking northwards towards Stoke tunnel but i am not totally sure?.
