Some good pictures there Neil. I took my eldest two lads to see the Cavalcade, a very enjoyable day.

Great Pictures. This event was still talked about when I got to Darlington in late 79 and I wonder whether one of my former colleagues was featured in a few of the shots (my resolution is not good enough to be sure) He was Ken Tarn - formerly a driver at West Auckland and TC Manager at Darlington in my time.
Probably a unique event in its scale and being run relatively locally.

Has anyone got any more tales/pics of it?

That could be Ken on the NCB saddle tank but I can't remember him wearing a hat like that.

52A It was the hat that brought Ken into my mind - a long lost memory - perhaps corrupted now. Is this the start of a Darlingtom recollection thread like the Kings Cross area ones?

Alas I do not know Darlington that well, I worked with Ken during the last few years before he retired at Newcastle. A lovely man.

Here is your chance to see Hardwicke in steam that day alongside Darlington and Simpson Rolling Mills.

Whilst rooting around in my dad's loft I found a 1975 reprint of the 1925 souvenir guide for the 100th anniversary - would it be of interest for me to scan it (or take photos if too fragile to scan) and upload to the forum? Wasn't aware my dad was at the cavalcade.... haven't asked, but he could have picked it up at a later date. Wonder if something similar will be done again, perhaps for the 200th
