Any ideas as too the location of this shot of 69865?

I thought possibly Driffield Wansford rd.

looks like Malton??

Could be, looking East from the loco shed area.
Where would the BRSA club be I thought that was alongside the Signal box?

What is the coach?

The coach looks like a GWR Hawksworth to me

Just checked the line diagram for Malton and it looks right.
Only thing is the apparent distance from the bracket signal to the left and the signal box.
My diagram gives 21m 26.85ch signal to Box @ 21m 31.87 = 5 chain which may just be possible if recorded to centre of box.

Scarborough excursion or regular service?
Has it been taken out of service for whatever reason?

Not easy to tell of the lower quadrant signals so far away, even when 'zoomed', but from the shape of the dark areas around the signals lamps, and their relative distance from their signals' finials, I would think - 'LQs, yes; GWR, no' ; - more like NER signals.

The coach looks to me like a Collett BG, possibly still in GWR livery. Had it been a Hawkesworth vehicle it would have had domed roof ends. Regular parcels traffic? Or a Pigeon Special?

The signals look more like NER than GWR though I'm no expert on these things.

Don't know about that BB it looks like a G.W.R. coach to me although of the Collett era (1920s-1930s) and i still think those signals in the far right distance look like they are of the G.W.R. lower quadrant design.

The consensus is Malton looking towards East box,the engine has a Whitby shed code,presumably having worked in via what is now the NYMR and Rillington. The GWR wasn't alone in lower quadrant signals,the NER variety can still be seen at Goathland and Levisham
The coach is a puzzle,indicates something special might have been carried, could be for pupils cases etc at term start/end for Ampleforth on the Gilling branch,(there were special school trains),similarly items for nobility and their retinue on a grouse shooting fortnight,staying at Sledmere or Castle Howard maybe even military items to/ from the west.We will never know.

This is Malton east from the other side.

Very true but G.W.R./W.R. lower quadrant signals and associated signal posts are of a very distinctive design as apposed to N.E.R. lower quadrant signals.

The question really is wots a ex-N.E.R. loco doing passing a 1930s G.W.R. Collett coach on the G.W.R.??.
