Spent an enjoyable day at NRM York on Thursday - and a less than enjoyable journey home thanks to someone stealing cable between Rotherham and Meadowhall which turned a 1.5 hour journey into a 4 hour one and about four different trains (after I decided to use the train as 'it'll cost about as much, take the same time and be more relaxing than driving'!)

I was mainly there for research reasons, but managed to get this done by 3pm and spent the rest of the day enjoying the museum - my mini-tripod enabled me to get some better photographs than previous visits (the tripod is about 10cm tall, but is perfect for museums, resting on display boards, handrails etc)

Thanks chaps - it's the pre-grouping items that are my main interest, so anything 1923 onwards doesn't get much of a look-in from me. Unfortunately the lovely Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway 2-4-2T 1008 was in too bad a position to photograph, as it has been since at least last October. Hopefully the NER crane will be on public display again soon too. I believe it was removed from the open area in front of the main hall for the York Wheel, but hasn't returned, it's a very impressive item to have and now it's sat in a car park getting dirty.

I really like how the M7 shot came out too Manna - the 'wet platform' is the wood between 3 or 4 benches arranged in a square with the top between covered over, I rested my camera on the far end and it came out with that effect.

Shame about the barriers at the front of the Midland Spinner, but they're no doubt there as public have been climbing on it's flat front before

What was on the turntable? I hope it isn't what I think it is

It most likely is - 'Hogwart's Castle'. Aside from 'City of Truro' outside in the pouring rain and a Scammell mechanical horse, the Only large GWR exhibit currently at York

So it is, I though it was 46201 I like Olton Hall, but I hate it with the Hogwarts nameplates on
