Thanks for these - The 'Cromptons' were much liked by railwaymen, although Southern blokes reckon they were never the same once they went on cyclic diagrams away from the SR involving Crewe, Cardiff etc. As to these pics, I reckon the first is south of the Veterinary Bridge near the obelisk country side of Potters Bar (although the GN never used such a term) and the second is Welwyn tunnels

I think there is already a thread with this subject, couldn't they be combined?

I would say 'hq1' is right that these two are in the two locations he mentioned, which keep on and on cropping up in your pics as 'unknown' (the 'obelisk' location photo includes what was also often locally known as 'Hawkshead' bridge): They're both up trains.
Re the two other 'unknown' photos (colour) in that group ("....81740" and "....08309"), I'm fairly certain that the former, and probably the latter, are at Reading General.

Regarding this one, I didn't know old Selby station area well at all, but if this is of an Uddingston
to Cliffe train, at Selby, this shot would be at the east of the station. But wasn't the swing bridge immediately beyond the east end, yet that's not evident here.
So might this pic be either of a Cliffe-Uddingston, or be some where other than Selby?

I am going by the details on the photo
If it is not Selby anyone any idea?

Could it be the south end of Doncaster?

That is definately the Doncaster end of Selby Station.
Leeds lines curve off to the right beyond the bridge.
Centre lines now removed.

Agreed Bryan. The cement train is approaching the swing bridge over the river Ouse which is immediately to the north end of the station.
Part of the locoshed can be seen through the right hand portal of the bridge which carries the main Selby Goole road.Spent many happy hours in the 50's spotting on that bridge but from some steps at the other side-these steps lead down to the loco shed .

So that would make the train a Down journey (Cliffe->Uddingston)? Or would an Uddingston-Cliffe have been routed in this direction through Selby for some reason?

Cheers! That seemed the logical answer, but being from 'Darn sarff' and mostly unfamiliar with Yorkshire freight routeings, just thought I'd check.

This photo features the interlaced sand drag between the tunnels at Welwyn North and Woolmer Green down distants...
