I recently acquired the negative of this pleasing image of an NER Q Class 4-4-0 (LNER D17/2) running light engine, but where is it taken? I'm one of our fine members will recognise it.

Surely this one cant be too hard with a distinctive church and a company ***hard selling coillery supplies etc. Its definitely south of Newcastle.

I'd be tempted by Donny but the spire seems wrong.

Yes the church steeple fits Carlisle.

I think it's Carlisle Citadel too. Not only does the church fit the location, so does the warehouse to the left of the church.

I've just had a look on Google Earth Streetview and it is indeed Carlisle Citadel. If you follow Crown Street where it goes under the station the warehouse still stands though the painted title is completely gone.

Can I have my prize please? 8)

Dear PinzaC55 and all other contributors,
Many thanks indeed. Yes it's Carlisle, the warehouse was the key. As you mention it's still there (now Carlisle Glass). Prize? I'll be happy to send a high resolution copy of the image by e-mail. Requests to 'soulmansteve@me.com'.
Thanks again for all responses - Steve :D

Just as a little extra information 1924 was a Carlisle engine throughout its existence. Source Yeadon's Register
