North Eastern Railway Head Office, 1906

Completed in 1906, this is the former North Eastern Railway Head Office in York, up the road from the station just inside the city walls. It's a very impressive building, and is now the Grand Court Hotel

A fine building, been in there enough times. It must have been declared open on 20th September 1906, if my calculations are correct, as one of the fatalities in the Grantham derailment of the night before - "Scotch express down the bank" - was a director of the NER on his way from London for the opening ceremony. As an aside, pleasing to see that the General Offices at Waterloo are currently being refurbished for continued railway use. Another fine building (and station)
