Have just found a few images taken by me at the start of a snow storm at York 50A circa 1960. Four attached to this post. The negs have scanned quite well considering that they are 50 years old.
Had cycled over from Manchester [staying at the YHA that night] Film was still in short supply and expensive in those days so I only had 2 x 12 exposure films for the whole week end. How I wish that I could be transported back to those halcyon days with my modern DSLR equipment.

I remember 84 running about, and sneaking under the shed formans window to get in to the shed.
we would get cab rides from the station to the shed in the latter days of steam.

The late John Peck took me round one sunday and I fell off Bittern......silly boy

Them were the days when cycling from Manchester to York was seen as nothing too unusual. It is a little bit of a shame that the weather was so unkind, but the nostalgia is all there.

I only 'bunked' York once in 1964. It was not very busy sadly and I didn't possess a camera. Great pics and happy memories. Can't confess to having cycled as I came up from Plymouth!
When I go to the NRM these days I still see those steps just after the rail bridge which was the way we got in I think.

Lovely pics, Keith. We used to do York, travelling on a cheap Sunday return excursion from Stevenage - for the princely sum of 8/6! Part of the thrill was getting a ride behind an A3 or V2, that was the usual motive power. We used to squeeze in Doncaster as well.
