For those fans who can't get enough, I attach some shots of 4472 in the livery she was carrying in 1969. For some reason, the second tender was regarded as a train, therefore provision had to be made for a guard, hence the brakevan.

Thanks v.m. Hermit 109 !
I detect, from background detail, these were all taken around Finsbury Park Depot/'Clarence Yard' / Fins.Pk. No.2 signal box.

Stevie, you're bang on with the location but I can't remember the occasion. I can identify loco inspector Bill Tumbridge and fireman Alan Ramage and I'm almost sure I can see John Hill as the driver standing by the tender. He was the driver on the 1968 non-stop run leaving King's Cross. I'm going by the date on the slide which is 1969, but that's when the film was processed so the pictures could have been earlier.

4472 made a number of runs down & up the ECML around 1968/69 i saw her going through WGC on about three separate occasions going down road and one coming up road. Sometime around the summer of 1969 i had a ride behind her as part of a school party to YORK. The train hauled by 4472 made a stop at WGC to pick us up, i would like to know the exact date in 1969 that this trip to YORK occured?.

I understand that a brake van was used during light engine movements to allow a look-out to signal to the driver if necessary. There is a photograph of the loco, two tenders, and brake van, backing into Norwich in May 1967, in the original Ian Allan book "Flying Scotsman" published in 1969.

Micky - if you go to
http://www.sixbellsjunction.co.uk/60s/ht1969.html you'll find a list of railtours that took place in 1969. Hopefully the one you were on will be in there. If it was a schools trip it might not be though.

Thanks 61070 i've just seen your posting. I can't find the trip behind 4472 that i referred to in the summer of 1969 to YORK and now i am not sure if it may have been in 1968 instaed?. I always assumed that the trip took place in 1969?.

It is nice to see a good photo of Flying Scotsman from the 60's when she had two tenders.
