I'd appreciate any help in identification of locomotives, locations, and narrowing down the date (current range is c. 1897 to c. 1912)

The numbering of the first image, identified as a Holden T19 Class, has enabled the last possible date (for that image at least) to be set as June 1904. See the comments at http://www.flickr.com/photos/whatsthatp ... 728952730/

Hi.

Can't talk about the engine but the location seems to be Wormley, looking north towards Broxbourne (Liverpool St - Cambridge main line).
The loops are not present but I don't think they were put in until early in the 20th Century.
The box is right against the crossing, obscuring the view for motorists which was the principle cause of the 1934 collision between a lorry and a train here.

The second picture looks like a J14. I am going to stick my neck out for that as it is a three link coupling on the front and no vacuum pipes. Although it is easily a J15 too. The headcode should give away the route but I don't know it.

Yes, that's right; Wharf Road LC, now an AHB.

I realise that this one is a little old now, but as a newcomer I wondered if it had been established that the view was Wharf Road Wormley. I have a copy of the 1898 25" O.S. map which shows the crossing here and it does look a good call. Although the area east of the line was later developed for glasshouses it was open fields surrounded by hedges at the time of the survey. There was a refuge siding between Slipe Lane to the south and Wharf Road at this time, but the up and down passing loops to the north of the box did not go in until after 1900. I cannot find my note of the exact date at present.

Should have added to last post that the GER Holden D27 2-2-2 tender engine could be in the yard at Broxbourne. There was a turntable at the northern end of the up yard and Stratford to Broxbourne was the usual route for tender engines for running in after undergoing overhaul or repairs at the works.
