60047 on Maunsell stock

Post by robertcwp »

I recently acquired copyright in this image from Gerald T Robinson:

Image

60047 Donovan heading south near Hatfield, Sunday 20 August 1961.

The working is unidentified. Members of the SR Loco-hauled Coaching Stock Yahoo Group have suggested it's either a special or a troop train.

A bit of a long shot but does anyone out there have the relevant STN or any other information that might identify the working?

Interesting i can recall southern stock on a working that crossed the Royal Border Bridge mid afternoon going North but i think that train originated at Bournemouth and worked up the GCR as far as Sheffield then to York and up the ECML Northwards.
Hi interested in the area served by 52D. also researching colliery wagonways from same area.

CWDs shew SR and LNE stock work Newcastle/Bournemouth alternate days, full trains of either stock. The same applied to through cross country trains to the GWR (spit) all GW one day and All LNE the next day. GW and SR stock from Northallerton went through the valley to Newcastle ie Darlington Durham LMS stock was allowed to go Leeds Northern-Northallerton-Eaglescliffe-Stockton Billingham Greatham-Seaton Carew etc to Newcastle by the coast.
Incidently Seaton Carew was the place where if you won a free holiday first prize was one week at Seaton Carew and second prize was two weeks at Seaton Carew! It was the sort of Co Durham equivilent of the Northumberland Spanish City
