I thought the arrangement of signals & repeaters was interesting.

Bit of a guess, but from 'the lie of the (background) land', could this be Retford North, approaching from the westerly (Whisker Hill) direction?

Yes it is a very interesting picture. The distants are certainly fixed and unworkable. The fogging lever is interesting but is it for trains on the opposite line? The rodding isn't arranged to operate a Clayton fogging machine on the line in the shot. Also the fog repeater signal looks to be operated by something coming from under the running line and not from the main wire run..

I think i'd go with StevieG as to the location.

I'm almost prepared to put money on Retford by agreeing with the previous 2 posters and I'm fairly positive that I have photos at home from the opposite direction, hopefully showing the reverse of these signals.

G'Day Gents

What a great picture! But have you really looked at it, to the right there is a pile of bricks, then there's the hole? piles of dirt here and there, and is that boarding in the hole?? what are they about to do?? We have, lower down a fogmans hut, it has a air vent and a chimney, so is there a door?? and is it made of asbestos or concrete??
Who would'nt want to climb up there to refil the lamps in a howling gale

Definitely Retford North coming off the G.C Curve into the station
Know it well.
Left hand signal into Platform south bound where there was then chance to go left again to Clarbro tunnel, Lincoln or Cleethorpes or out onto the G.N south
Right hand to Middle line which only went south on the G.N towards Newark
Used to be a big notice on the left in a big grassed area as you came in saying "Defacating in public was prohibited"
In my tender years I didn't even know what it meant

Certainly looks rather like the fogging equipment would apply to the other line. I think detonators for lines right next to a fogging point were normally put down by hand.
