LNER negative identification

Post by strang steel »

I have recently purchased some old negatives of LNER locomotives at NE England locations.

If anyone would care to provide extra info, that would be great.

This is the first one....
Copy of 875300699 2.jpg
I have added this to a new page on my spotting website at https://spottinglogs.co.uk/photos-from-lner-days/

The others will be added to that page in due course, but scanning is a rather slow process.

Looking at them with an untrained eye - most of them seem to be at York.

I have taken the plunge and created another related website (at great expense), with a very similar name - www.spottinglogs.blog

This will be the vehicle for black & white images I have acquired over the years, mostly taken by spotters and enthusiasts. These photos are from the BR steam era, and I have divided the site into 5 sections - BR, ER, LMR, SR and WR.

I have lots of b/w negatives, which will keep me out of trouble for the coming winter months, and additions will be made on a slow but regular basis.

John.
The 2nd unidentified ER image of Hornets Beauty; I'm fairly sure that is end north of Doncaster Carr Loco. The chimney on the far side looks like the chimney for Pegler's Ltd, though it isn't a full shot of it.
There are also 6 running lines so that's consistent with the location.
Thanks.

Thanks. That is great info. I was unsure, as 60535 was a long term Scottish locomotive.

I have added more photos to the locations pages on the website, but I thought of Mickey when I scanned this, as a small part of Holloway South Down signal box can be seen just to the right of the smokebox - so I thought I would add a copy here.

I might not be correct but it's my gut feeling looking at the image. Scottish turns would often work to Donny and back.
Thanks.

The J15 with the two 6 wheelers must be leaving Haughley Junction up the Mid Suffolk? Date no later than 1952 (I think) when they were replaced by bogie carriages.

65447 can you confirm that?

Your D11 possibly somewhere on the CLC is in fact at Amersham. See the photo on this web page:

http://www.metroland.org.uk/amersham/metro/memories.htm

with further details.

Thanks Simon. If that photo is copyright Richard Hardy and Transport Treasury, I am curious as to how I have the negative?
I will remove it, anyway.

Edited:- I have looked at the Transport Treasury website, and they have no reference to holding any items from the collection of Richard Hardy. I am wondering if the images were loaned to TT for a number of years, and since then the collection has been sold?

Certainly, the batch I purchased was stated to come with copyright, but one can't be too careful these days.
