This pic is on the bay of evil titled NER unknown Derailment, come on you sleuths we need help.

Got no idea of where, but the toppled loco looks somewhat like a BTP in earlier condition, although the other locos are
Worsdells.

We have discovered the accident was at Bedale Beck, the loco is a BTP or G6 No.465 to give its LNER designation. unfortunatly the fireman was killed. We have not located an accident report.

The NER Mafioso have come up trumps, please have a read of the reports.

Are there any dates for or source of them to show exactly when this derailment occurred?

A very sad story; you wouldn't wish Thomas Appleby's last hours on your worst enemy. If the front end of the engine went down then it seems likely that her crown plate was uncovered and she dropped her plug. Or perhaps a steam pipe fractured. I've seen a mudhole door gasket fail when under pressure. The roar of boiler water flashing off to steam was unnerving. This is the 1911 revision of the ordnance plan for the Bedale station area. I have circled what I take to be the site of the accident judged from the photograph and the indentation in the embankment. Perhaps members of the Wensleydale Railway can provide further details. Presumably the newspaper reports can be dated?

The derailment took place on 6th December 1900, I Agree the indentation is where they recovered the loco and finally the premises where the inquest was held is up for sale http://www.rightmove.co.uk/commercial-p ... 41558.html
