Gentlemen

Season's Greetings from the US. I came across the following film outtake of LNER steam while researching an online archive and thought I would pass it along. I apologize if this film has been previously posted.

The film was recorded in August 1926. The film description is as follows: Various scenes of trains outside of York, trains at Selby station and views of Arksey and Doncaster. Views of countryside between Rossington and Bawtry and a train crossing a tall trestle. Towns seen from passing train include Retford; Grantham; Bend; Huntingdon; Hitchin.

Slightly out of my main interest areas but a lovely film i think the "tall trestle" may be Welwyn Viaduct

I reckon i saw Paxton, Cadwell and Digswell boxes in there.

Fascinating pictures, some really nice, albeit a little small in some of the images. Really nice ex GNR stuff, and some good horse box trains too.

Definitely Welwyn Viaduct too.

A very interesting piece of archive film, it starts off with a few scenes around Hitchin and later on passes through Hitchin again but in the meantime goes over a wide area of the LNER including Welwyn viaduct, Peterborough Crescent Junction before crossing the river Nene and Rossington south of Doncaster plus a number of locations on the former NER as well.

Very enjoyable. Thanks. There was a right old mixture of carriage stock back then. It almost seems like whatever was lying about would be gathered up and formed into a train.

Was Hitchin South (box) completely re-built at a later date?. At 26-28 seconds in from the start there is a brief shot of Hitchin South and the box in the film doesn't look like the same box that was there during the 1950s-1970s?.

I wondered if the NER 4-4-0 shot was at Heaton Newcastle with Chillingham pub in the background.

Just to confirm that the view 3.5minutes into the film is of Selby. The loco looks like a D17 or D22 of which Selby had a few on the books around that time.

The train has just left Selby station, crossed the River Ouse and is heading north into the large BOCM complex. It is on the down fast which suggests it is heading to York, trains for Hull or Bridlington usually took the down slow.All three lines diverged just to the north of the BOCM at Barlby signalbox.

Great piece of film.

Many thanks for this link - I haven't even watched it all yet but of most interest is the carriage stock - a lot of wonderful Howldens in the early part at least.
