Hard Work on a Q6

A view of the front tubeplate of 63395 at Grosmont yesterday.

The locomotive is on accomodation bogies. I think that the wheelsets are in Devon for re-tyring.

I'm just grateful that assembling a gearbox for my locomotives is a lot simpler than coping with all those tubes!
(Not to mention the dismantled superheater header!)

Here is the same locomotive at work last year.

What I was trying to capture (but doesn't really show that well) was how corroded the windjabber was. It would be quite easy for it to vanish entirely!

Hi drmditch,
I presume the windjabber is the semi-circular protrusion at forward top of the chimney.
(I googled and that appears to be the answer).

We called it a capuchon, which is by translation a "hood".

To NER enthusiasts it will always be a windjabber!

Wndjabber: a proper piece of English terminology. There's no need to import foreign terms when we either already have our own or can produce them by combining other words.
