Re: Darlington Saltburn branch
If the line is still extant as we know it is, then how come this plate is up for auction?
It looks highly likely then that it has been acquired not by legal means.

Re: Darlington Saltburn branch
I cannot remember it from my time at Darlington, but it is a long time ago. Certainly was not a known station "sight" to be visited.
I think that the various zero data posts are still in situ on York station

Re: Darlington Saltburn branch
BR and its successors don't use the NER Zero points any more and all of these plates are either in collectors hands or destroyed now.
The multi plated Zero post at York station is a replica made a few years ago to replace one which disappeared during WW2 probably when the bomb hit the station.

Re: Darlington Saltburn branch
Mr B is that a view of what used to be called, in my youth, the "excursion platform"?
Re: Darlington Saltburn branch
Redcar Central platform 2, is now as shown in the photo, since BR stopped using the train shed (this is now a small bussines centre, hence the windows in the building.) a new platform was built. The wall behind the platform is the old engine shed - before the line went to Saltburn, now in use as a carpet/PVC windows workshop. The special platform was down from the 'old' loco shed towards the Black bridge.

Re: Darlington Saltburn branch
The zero post for the Darlington Saltburn branch used to be along the back of the station wall, positioned roughly directly above the attached photo of Princess Elizabeth arriving for the S&D celebrations in 1975. I am sure it was still there in the eighties. The guy in the photo is Denis Akester who was driver/chainman for the Area Assistant Divisional Civil Engineer at that time. Note the high visibility gear of the time.
