Yep - that signal is definitely on the 'to make' list. Feel free to e-mail me (or even start a discussion?) on any further signalling details needing 'buttoning down'. Certainly an aspect I've researched (and continue to research!) carefully for the pre-War era.61070 wrote:Good to learn that the tall somersault starter at the north end was still in place until at least 17 April 1944. I'm currently working up a 'broad brush' signalling history for Grantham, so that's another piece of the story more accurately buttoned down.
What a beautiful signal alongside No.3279. Lots of soldering practice if you choose to model that one, Robert!!

Re: C1 at Grantham Date?
3279 picture is in the green bible Part 3A.
Date given is circa 1933. At this date the loco is a 4-cylinder simple. It ran in this form until early September 1936.
It is interesting how many modellers wish to display all the versions of the Pacific types, in contrast to how few wish to look at how many variations there are in the GNR large boiler Atlantic running on the LNER.
The C1 was undoubtedly a main-stay of the main line workings into the 1930s.

Also in the Cawston Grantham book (p.12). The photo is credited to Gordon Hepburn but no details in the caption about a date.
