61070 could be correct 60919 & 60836 were the last V2s and were in Demand for specials so a Southern location is feasible.

Hi interested in the area served by 52D. also researching colliery wagonways from same area.

Shrewsbury Coleham 6D I tried to identify the other two locos and juggled around the one you can see and come up with that shed. Although 61070 could be correct as she was a popular loco being one of the last active V2s with her sister 60836 they turned up at some unusual locations. At first i thought that this may be a pic of one of the engines loaned to the Southern when they had problems with the MN/BB/WCs but after checking it wasnt in that group. I hope its not Thornton Junction because i did see this loco on shed there and the time period would be about 1965/66.

S R shed from 60919's trip to the Southern in July ?1966 for a railtour. Possibly Basingstoke??
The V2 failed, as I recall - as was the case with 60114 at Worcester .Looking back it is barely believable the lengths that BR went to at around this time, moving engines from one end of the country to the other for railtour requests. Other Scottish locos involved in journeys south around this time were 60532 and 60024 of 61B. Within a year or so this was to change with a vengeance as BR top management became very hard nosed about steam.

Yes, the shed was Basingstoke.

60919 was booked for an LCGB railtour to Weymouth on 3 July 1966. I don't recall the reason why it did not work the train, which ran with unrebuilt Bulleid 34002 doing its best to sound like a V2. There was some hope that 60919 might be able to work at least part of the return journey so it was sent down light engine to follow the tour and by afternoon had got as far as Eastleigh I believe. After turning the idea to use the V2 on the special fell through and 60919 started to make its way back towards London. When we called in at Basingstoke in the evening we saw 60919 making its way on to the shed, so it never actually hauled any stage of the tour.

60532 was another disappointment on LCGB tours that year. It was brought down for a tour to Exeter but ran out of steam on Honition bank - my informant (who might have been biased as he was an ex-Top Shed fireman) thought that was due to poor handling by the SR crew.

60024 did successfully reach Weymouth.
