A4 at Risborough
Scroll down six photos to see WKW on a freight at Princes Risborough circa 1947. A rare sight presumably?

Rare in photographs, but more common in real life during the second world war and thereafter than you'd think, particularly on the Scotch Goods for one. That's a great photograph of Walter K. Whigham though, looks like it has just come out from its general overhaul and repaint.adge wrote:Scroll down six photos to see WKW on a freight at Princes Risborough circa 1947. Yes. Aware of the 'Scotch' Goods.....but on a mixed freight on the GC/GW joint line?

Re: A4 at Risborough
Running in turn perhaps? It wasn't unheard of. I've seen a few mixed freights with A4s on the front in my photo books. One which sticks out in memory is a filthy Silver Link in NE black in the 40s.adge wrote:Yes. Aware of the 'Scotch' Goods.....but on a mixed freight on the GC/GW joint line?
Re: A4 at Risborough
It's a long way from the Plant to Risborough, let alone taking into account the routeing - not likely to be a running-in turn as such and not the most obvious way to get a loco back to a London depot (if in fact that's where Walt was based). Interesting shot.

I don't have the books to check - it's not working from (or to?) the renaming ceremony is it? Given the LNER HQ was Marylebone it would seem an obvious place to have it.
