ETHzürich E-Pic Library

Post by PGBerrie »

I don't know whether this has ever been posted here, but the ETH Zürich has a photo library with a lot of old pictures of locos as delivered from various British manufacturers to various railway companies, including the LNER and some of its constituents:

Don't worry about the SNCF at the beginning, the good stuff starts pretty soon afterwards. Unfortunately the descriptions are in German, but does it really matter? Enjoy!

Well there's fun. It answers a question about the intended function of Stirling's 0-4-2's for the GNR:
Baujahre 1882-1895, 117 Exemlare, Design Patrick Stirling, Class F2, unübliche Achsfolge 0-4-2, GB-üblicher Innenantrieb, Zweizylinder Nassdampf, für Personenzüge im mittleren Geschwindigkeitsbereich

The Swiss know all: for medium speed passenger trains.
