NER Boundary Stone

Post by sss750 »

Has anyone got a pic of an NER boundary stone, not the flat to the ground type but one that sticks out of the ground about 2 foot high with the rounded top.

Not aware of any actual NER boundary stones of the type you describe. There are quite a lot of SDR stones (at I think 1/4 mile intervals) surviving on the former line (now a cycle and foot path) between Waskerey and Parkhead.

I think there may be a picture somewhere on here. I will have to search an old 'phone to see if I can find one I took. I'm not venturing up there until a:- I've overhauled my bicycle and b: the weather gets a little warmer and c: there is more daylight!

There is by the way, a dimensioned drawing on page 53 of North Eastern Record Volume 1.

I already have pics of 2 different styles of S&D boundary stone, as pictured. Unless they are a different style to these then I'm ok for photos thanks anyway.
