mystery loco

Post by widnesian »

Hi everyone, got a question, can anyone ID this loco, I think it,s a D5, not totally sure. It shows a Manchester - Liverpool express passing Farnworth (Widnes) about 1910, can you help

The number of the buffer beam seems to end in 77, which would make the loco class 11A(D6) number (5)877

one last thing on this subject, I think I heard somewhere or read it in a book, did they have the nickname greyhounds, I could be completely wrong and got it all mixed up but it does ring a bell

The Drummond T9 (same wheel configuration) of the LSWR WAS known as a Greyhound for obvious reasons; never heard of this soubriquet given to any GCR loco.
