The 2nd picture down from the top is taken on the G.E. at ''Trumpington'' situated about a mile south of Cambridge station.

I think the first is at Cambridge MPD from the North looking across the throat of the bay platforms.

Yes the two GER pics were the ones that stumped us the two others are local to Newcastle as john says Firdassau at Central and the Atlantic is near Byker the third rail and the houses were the clue. More to come later after I have compressed a couple. A D1 near a distinctive building which could be England or Scotland as the LNER transferred a few D1s North.

A D1 but where is it, in GNR territory or later in life in Scotland.

I have already attempted a thought on the third picture in the set. It appears if two posts happen at the same time one message is lost.

I will repeat.

I did not get the location as Byker. But it looks like the terraced houses are in South View West?

The train is therefore eastbound I believe. The headlamps suggest an ECS working to Heaton? [Or, less likely, a steam worked electric code?]

Could the loco be a Heaton resident too 2196? The date would therefore be between 1935-8.

3rd one as stated is Byker heading towards Heaton having gone over the crossover into Byker station and Riverside Branch. The picture here seems to tie in with the houses behind the train http://s0.geograph.org.uk/geophotos/01/ ... 7b6880.jpg Showing its relation to Byker station.
