LNER Teak Coach Lettering

Lettering for LNER coaches. There seem to be two different shades of gold Most seem to be light yellowy gold shade The alternative seems to be a darker gold shade without yellow, though this seems to be rare. When was the period each was used and which would be appropriate for the first Thompson coaches?

What are you basing this on? In LNER days the lettering was gold leaf. Preservation societies on the other hand use whatever takes their fancy and cannot be relied on.

One genuine source is the lettering on the NER dynamometer car in the NRM as it hasn't been touched since 1929. It was from photos and tracings of this that we got a signwriter in Sussex to do the business on the GN saloon on the Bluebell Railway. Thank chunk of the articulated LNER sleeper is also worth looking at

The Dyno has post war numbering so not correct re 1929. You can clearly see the panels have been overpainted.

. . and we note that, in the photo above, DYNAMOMETER isn't placed centrally in the panel either.

The Dynamometer car was repainted after the war when it lost it's lining and was renumbered,
at sometime later the gold in the lettering has been overpainted cream, by some idiot!, although I
have a feeling a couple of letters might still have the gold but my pics don't show them.

What might have been meant here is the LNER and numerals which are largely original transfers applied prior to display in Clapham Museum albeit painted over. As stated elsewhere the actual "DYNAMOMETER CAR" lettering is not original. None of the lettering are as applied in 1929 as they were all removed when taken into BR ownership.
