I enjoyed the item on the P2, but the presenter quoted that the P2 would have a 250psi boiler.
This would give a tractive effort of 49,000lb.
a) Is this true?
b) Would this lead to slipping?

I don't know what has been designed-in for the purposes of the computer simulation of on-track behaviour, but it occurred to me that were the higher boiler pressure to be used, then in principle the cylinder diameter could be reduced and a little more space afforded for lateral movement of the coupled wheels on curves.

I'll ask a man who may know, but he may not feel free to comment at this stage.

I am informed that the cylinder diameter will be 19.75", giving a tractive effort barely above the original P2 figure. More info due to be made public at the weekend I gather.

I am building a live steam "Cock O' The North" in gauge 1. The boiler is now complete and the motion has been successfully run on compressed air.
I am in the process of finishing the lagging and other details. Can anyone tell me the dimensions of the boiler bands in particular the width so I can add these soon.

That's looking very nice Arthur....we have a large G1 track at our model engineering club, I do like seeing the live steam loco's running with full rakes of coaches... G1 is a nice scale.. good detail and easy to handle

I don't know but I'll nudge a couple of people who ought to know, since they are involved in building the real thing. With any luck the visible quality of your work will encourage them to share the information with you. I imagine LNER standard boiler band width ought to be a "well known" dimension.

I have access to nearly all the P2 drawings, will take a look int he next day or two.
