Help - NER A2/LNER Lowmac L

According to the pictures and drawing in Tatlow Vol 2, and the drawing published by NERA, the A2/Lowmac L has the deck overhanging the side frames supported by four struts on each side.
However there are some models showing solid triangular brackets instead of struts, and the J Joseph drawing in RM February 2004 appears ambiguous.
Two questions:-
A - Of the ten built did some have struts and some brackets?
B - Were the struts rectangular or round in section?
I had always assumed that they were rectangular, but a close examination of the pictures suggests that they might be round, which would presumably make them stronger.
The A12/Imp Qs also look as though they might have had round struts.
